Introducing our 2021 Greenway Ambassadors
We are excited to announce that we have welcomed this year’s Greenway Ambassadors class.
Meet John, Tapica, Jeffrey, Nakeetha, Vanessa, Erica, and Layla. You’ll be seeing them as they get involved with supporting the Greenway and creating their Ambassadors project!
We’ve hit the ground running with three ambassadors trainings. One of these trainings was a tour led by Ramiro Diaz from Waggoner and Ball and Danielle Duhe of Dana Brown & Associates, highlighting stormwater infrastructure. We talked about New Orleans’ canals, pumping stations, and green infrastructure parks that represent the past, present, and future of water management in the city, and the Greenway’s role in our city’s relationship with water. Rob Henig Bell of Bike Easy shared about the Complete Streets Coalition and approaches to community organizing.
Thank you to the Foundation for Louisiana for making this program possible.

Posted by Camly Tram · February 24, 2021 12:00 PM · 1 reaction

The North Lopez pedestrian bridge will begin construction soon! We are grateful the city is building an essential, safe access point to the Greenway and its surrounding neighborhoods. Construction is set to begin soon and finish up in late summer.
DPW hosted a preconstruction meeting on Feb. 11, 2021. At the preconstruction meeting, Josh Scott, the DPW Project Manager, confirmed the bike and pedestrian trail will remain open during construction with detours created if needed. They will also check with engineers to ensure the culvert in the bioswale will allow for the same level of drainage as present.

NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Friends of Lafitte Greenway (Friends), the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD), and Arts Council New Orleans are celebrating the grand opening of a new pedestrian Plaza on the Lafitte Greenway, and the reveal of the Iris of Memory art installation by William Nemitoff. Responding to the key need for more outdoor public spaces in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, this rapid-build $100,000 project has transformed the driveway of the former Brake Tag Station where the Greenway meets the Bayou St. John into a vibrant and welcoming pedestrian plaza--a new space in the heart of Mid-City for picnics, farmers markets, art, music, plantings, and play. The space will be home to the Mid-City Crescent City Farmers Market, and a luminary art exhibit, Greenway Supernova, beginning next week.
