Volunteers from the GROW nonprofit partnership, along with dozens of U.S. Navy personnel in town for NOLA Navy Week, planted 100 cypress trees on Thursday(April 21) at the Lafitte Greenway in New Orleans. The 100 trees are the first of a thousand that the group intends to plant. A single bald cypress can absorb 880 gallons of water in a day. Native flowers will be planted in lowland meadows, to reduce maintenance costs and encourage pollinators.
